Final logo

Final logo options. The large one is my favorite but I'm unsure about the typeface.

P.s. the colors are slightly off on here... but what else is new? here's a screen shot of the real colors.

some more revisions

I liked the rectangle with the magnifying glass logo but it was pointed out that it looks somewhat like a camera, so I had to change it up a bit. and I also liked the interest created by the layered circles. So I worked some with that. Here are the results.

thoughts and revisions

this has been a challenging project for me. I've been struggling with the connection between content and and aesthetic so today I went back to the bare bones and brainstormed about ACCESS, what it's about and what I want to show. I really like the idea of using rounded edges and circles because I feel like they connote youth and wonder (bubbles, magnifying glasses), so I  sketched out some ideas for the logo. Before the logo was way too stark, had a disconnection between the logo and type and didn't say learning and wonder. Now I've changed the colors, added some elements and took out the type on a few options and added some circles. What do you think?

A couple of opportunities

(revised logo)

Well, this summer I was asked to design a cover for a curriculum framework book and a couple of kits to help teach the curriculum. The project is based on the ACCESS curriculum for teaching young children in a childcare "family learning" center. I worked with the group of professors that created the curriculum and they wanted a logo that displayed learning and curiosity so we chose a magnifying glass with the acronym inside. They also wanted colors that reflected this and then colors of their school where they developed the curriculum. So the colors are green, red and blue. Each kit, however would have a different color that reflected the content.

At this point, we had the logo, colors, typography, book cover and labels. But over the break it expanded to not only the cover, but posters, the interior of the book, kits and the overall identity as well. At first I was feeling like this was a lot to take on. It will eventually be nationally distributed so I'm under a lot of pressure to make it look good. So far this winter I've worked on the overall identity, revised cover, revised logo, and three posters. I know it could be a lot better. I just am stuck on how. The main focus is that the material is clear and comprehensible. And the charts (which are used to teach how to use the curriculum) are specific to the material so I can't change the arrangements. Each poster was given to me in a word file with the basic arrangements. I recreated them in Illustrator and changed what I could. But I'm missing something. Help?

First, some of the stuff I did this summer:

book cover original

Here are some original logo options with the original choice highlighted (it is applied to the label below) But I revised it and the revised logo is up top.
Each educational kit would be a plastic container with a label on top and side. Here is the top label with the old logo.

Here is a revised version of the book cover, created this winter. I'm not entirely happy with the typography and I'd like to add some kind of glow to the magnifying glass:

Here is instructional poster 1, showing what the acronym ACCESS means:

My other opportunity

My friend goes to the Culinary Institute of America and for her marketing class, she and her group had to develop a fake restaurant (or in their case, tea house) and she asked me to design the identity for them.

Here is what I was given:

a logo someone on the team designed:

and the description of the project:

Ok the name of our theoretical restaurant is Pekoe Tea
House. Our add would be going in a local magazine called Chronogram, which does
alot of artsy fartsy stuff. Our concept is a tea house that plays into the
imagination of child tea parties and really brings that whimsical feeling into a
tangible experience, with a modern flare.

Tt\he information we want on the ad is the name of the restaurant, our
hours (8-6 Tue-Fri, and 10-6 Sat and Sunday). Maybe a couple pictures of tea
pots, parties, or what have you. Our opening date (March 1, 2009) and a little
tidbit about what we are. Also, say something along the lines of "Mention this
ad and receive 20% off your first visit"

I really enjoyed this project and it kind of flowed for me.  It really made me feel like I've learned so so so much in the past two years but that I still have so much to learn.

Here is what I designed:
